Herbicide Tracker California
Community protection · Advance notice

Know before forestry
herbicides are sprayed near you.

We believe communities should be told before forestry herbicides are applied nearby. Herbicide Tracker is developing a notification program that asks logging companies, land managers, applicators and agencies to voluntarily provide four basic facts: what is being sprayed, where, when and by whom.

Why advance notice matters

People should not have to learn about a forestry herbicide application after it happens.

Advance notice can tell nearby residents the planned product or active ingredient, treatment location, date or treatment window, and the company or applicator responsible.

That gives people time to make informed choices about outdoor activity, pets and livestock, private water sources, and avoiding active treatment areas or any posted or label-directed restriction period.

How it is intended to work

One notice. Public posting. Local alert.

01

Send the notice

The company, land manager, applicator or agency sends the planned chemical, location, timing and responsible party before treatment.

02

We publish it

Herbicide Tracker posts the information publicly and clearly identifies it as a planned treatment notice supplied by the reporting party.

03

Nearby subscribers are alerted

People watching that county or a selected radius receive an email that a forestry herbicide treatment is planned near their area.

04

Connect the final record

When the later pesticide use report arrives, the official record can be linked to the advance notice so the public can compare the plan with reported use.

Advance notice

Before treatment

This alert can only happen when an operator, land manager, applicator or agency provides treatment information before spraying.

  • Product or active ingredient
  • Planned treatment area
  • Date or treatment window
  • Responsible company or applicator
  • Available posting, label or access information
Record alert

When official records arrive

Even when no advance notice is provided, subscribers can be notified when the completed application record is later published in Herbicide Tracker.

  • County or address-radius alert
  • Reported application date
  • Products and active ingredients
  • Reported acreage and method
  • Direct link to the public record
Participation and accountability

Participation may be limited at first. We are going to ask anyway.

Advance notification is not yet a universal forestry practice, and participation will depend on companies, land managers, applicators and agencies choosing to share planned treatment information.

Our long-term community protection plan is to make advance notice normal: ask operators to participate, publish the notices they provide, track unanswered requests, and continue publishing the official pesticide-use records when they arrive.

Communities should know what is being applied nearby before treatment—not only after the paperwork arrives.

For applicators, land managers and agencies

Help your neighbors know what is happening before treatment.

We invite forestry operators to provide advance treatment information for public posting. A useful notice identifies the planned product or active ingredient, location, timing, responsible entity, and available safety, posting or access information.

Important

Herbicide Tracker notices are informational. They do not replace pesticide-label requirements, regulatory notices, posted closures, worker-protection requirements, or instructions from public agencies or property owners.
